For the second year in a row the Lady Comets have won the OHSAA Northeast District Sectional Tournament at Buckeye Lanes in North Olmsted. The Lady Comets led for the entire 3 regular games but fell behind during the first four Baker Games. But a strong surge in the last 2 Baker games pushed them ahead of Berea-Midpark for the top spot. Makayla Velasquez led the Comets and was the top individual scorer at the tournament with a 620 series (199/189/232) to edge out Laney Fouts of Berea-Midpark by 10 pins. Hannah Aschenbach added a very nice 554 series (203/204/147) to finish fifth overall. The freshmen on the team were led by Sabrina Stawicki with a 479 series (161/159/159), Allison Taylor with a 448 series (184/123/141), Rachel McDerment with a 268 series (134/134) and Amanda McElheny with a game of 127. At the end of the 3 regular games the Lady Comets had tallied 2496 pins. The Comets had 6 Baker Games of 146/ 165/ 178/ 212/ 180 and 184 for a total Baker score of 1065. The Lady Comets advanced to the OHSAA District Tournament at Freeway Lanes in Warren, OH next Monday at 11:00 AM. Congratulations Ladies! Well deserved!
