Despite getting tripped up at the start of the D1A varsity race at Tiffin last weekend and being nearly last at one point in the race, Senior Matthew Kirsch managed to work his way up to 123rd place and a time of 17:41.2 to place first for the Comets. Senior Ethan Barnes was right behind him in 126th place with a career best time of 17:43.6. Junior Cael Walker lost his shoe at the finish(see picture), but still managed to place 129th with an all-time best time of 17:45.2. Jacob Raesler was right behind him with another lifetime best time of 17:56.0 and a 143rd place finish. Gabe DelValle rounded out the top five with a time of 18:18.2 and a place of 180th. The open boys were led by Junior Isaac Davis, who placed 85th out of 661 runners. His time of 19:16 was also a career best time. Nick Glahn was next with another best time of 19:26.4 and 108th place. Ryan Szczepanik also had a best time of 19:39.7 and a 142nd place. Seyveon Plaza was next for the Comets with another best time of 19:48.6 and a place of 159th. Dillon Jones was next for the Comets to round out the top 5 open runners with a place of 191 and a time of 20:07.7, which is not only a career best time, but over a 40 second improvement from the last race, which makes him the most improved runner of the week! Overall, 19/22 runners had their best times of the season! The Steele Boys will compete next at the Boardman Spartan Invitational on September 14th.
